Birchbox costs £10 per month for the month to month option, with discounts available for longer term subscriptions. So, what was in the May 2016 Birchbox for UK subscribers? Read on for my reveal, followed by my verdict, and sign up to get your box here: Birchbox: Receive The Best Of Beauty Every Month

Spectrum Collection Unicorn Tears Wonder-Sponge

It’s lilac and has unicorns on the packaging, which instantly gets it my vote… This is a full-sized makeup sponge in a teardrop shape, with an RRP. of £4.99. Two colours were available-pink and lilac.

theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in “Beauty Queen”

This is a gel-textured lip and cheek stain, a product that it seems many brands are starting to produce this year! This one in particular leaves a subtle but noticeable stain with one swipe, and has pretty good endurance.

This is a 1.2ml sample- the full-sized (8.5g) version costs £10.

Beaver Professional Shampoo/Conditoner Sachet

Here we have a 40ml tube of Beaver’s Hydro Nutritive Repairing Shampoo, along with a 10ml sachet of the conditioner to pair with it. Like most women, I seem to get through about ten times as much conditioner as I do shampoo, and so I think it would have made more sense to provide the conditioner in the larger container!

The RRP. of the full-sized versions of these (258ml) is £11.50 each.

Rituals Tao Wai Wang Mild Exfoliating Body Scrub

This 70ml tube of body scrub contains ultra-fine Chinese bamboo particles to exfoliate and invigorate the skin. The full sized (325ml) tub of this costs £19.50.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

This 20g travel-sized tube contains a deep-cleansing formula to brighten the skin, exfoliate and remove dirt. The full-sized version (120ml) costs £26.

Vita Coco Coconut Oil

Finally, this month’s Birchbox also contained an additional sample of Vita Coco’s 100% raw blend coconut oil in a small sachet. The full-sized product is 750ml, and costs £9.99.

My Verdict

This month’s Birchbox theme is “For the Dreamers,” and two subscribers will get an additional treat when they receive their box-a dream holiday! The box’s colourful but minimalistic design style this month is nice enough, in a very retro way!

In terms of the contents of this month’s box, I wasn’t as pleased as I have been with previous collations, because I rarely use hair products from beauty boxes, and I am going a bit snowblind with small body and skincare samples too. I would like to have seen a little more makeup-although I am pleased with theBalm’s Stainiac, and also the Wonder Sponge.  Given the “dreamers” theme, however, I feel that the general contents could have been a little bit more inspired.

While I don’t personally think that this was Birchbox’s strongest month, they do provide products from a wide variety of brands and never run out of ideas, and the contents varies considerably from month to month in terms of the collation.

Birchbox only costs £10 a month (plus £2.95 shipping), and you can sign up here: Birchbox: Receive The Best Of Beauty Every Month

I don’t think this months is good value for money at all. Im really glad that I didn’t get this months box as I wouldn’t have used any of it.
