The June 2016 Look Fantastic Beauty Box (UK) arrived today, which is the #LFJETSET edition.
So, what was in the box? Read on for my reveal, followed by my verdict.
Look Fantastic costs £15 per month for a one month subscription, with generous discounts offered for longer-term subs, which are paid month-by-month as opposed to upfront. This allows you to benefit from the extra savings without having to pay the full amount up front.
This is what I received in the June 2016 Look Fantastic Beauty Box:
Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream, 7ml sample size
This month’s editor’s pick is a 7ml tube of Caudalie’s Premier Cru Eye Cream, which is infused with copper, silver and pearlisers to help combat dullness and dark circles, and illuminate the skin.
The full-sized version of this is 15ml and costs a whopping £49, making this 7ml sample size worth approx. £22.86.
Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturiser, 22ml
This Naobay moisturiser contains sweet almond oil and rose-hips, and is suitable for all skin types. The full-sized (50ml) tube costs £32.95, giving this 22ml sample a value of around £14.50.
Korres Shower Gel, 40ml
There were two different variants of this shower gel sample available: bergamot and pear, or basil lemon. I received the former, which smells faintly or pear but I can’t pick the bergamot out at all!
The full-sized (250ml) bottle costs £6.40, giving this 40ml sample a value of around £1.
Mr. Blanc Teeth Whitening Strips x3
This product consists of three individual-use teeth whitening strips, coated with a whitening gel designed to absorb and remove surface stains.
A fourteen-day pack of these (14 strips) costs £24.99, giving this three-strip sample a value of around £5.38.
Cowshed “Cow Pat” Moisturising Hand Cream 50ml
I don’t understand why this is called Cow Pat! Memorable, I suppose, but still slightly off-putting!? Anyway, this is a moisturising hand cream with chamomile, grapefruit and cinnamon, with a spicy cinnamon smell.
The full-sized tube is 300ml and costs £16, giving this 50ml sample a value of around £2.66.
Dead Sea Spa Magick Beauty Balm BB Cream 15ml
This easy-to-blend BB cream purports to work with all complexions to produce a healthy glow that is not orange-y. A full-sized 50ml tube costs £13.50, giving this 15ml sample a value of around £4.05.
TanOrganic Tanning Oil 25ml
This is a moisturising, light-textured tanning oil to help you to achieve a light glow without dryness. A full-sized 100ml bottle is £24.99, giving this 25ml bottle a value of£6.25.
Elle Magazine July 2016 Edition
Finally, the box also came with a copy of the July 2016 edition of Elle Magazine, with a cover price of £4.10.
I must admit that I wasn’t overwhelmed with the June Look Fantastic beauty box, but I am possibly slightly biased as I prefer boxes that contain a combination of makeup and skincare, while Look Fantastic generally concentrates on skincare only. I also never read the magazine, but I suspect that plenty of people do!
The theme each month is generally cohesive and well thought out in terms of the products within it, but I am a bit bored of receiving a large number of tiny samples each month; I’d much rather receive fewer products that are larger, so that you can really try them out.
Case in point, the Mr. Blanc Teeth Whitening Strips-the box contains three, and the usage guidance pretty much says that in order to see a result, you need to use them for a fortnight or so, so head on over to the store to stock up-I don’t really see the value in receiving a sample that clearly states that there is not enough product there to try it out properly!
A tiny 40ml bottle of shower gel too seems almost like a waste of packaging, given that you will likely get one or maybe two uses out of it, and it’s not a high-value product either, which would make it more understandable.
The TanOrganic tan oil is quite a bold inclusion to me, with most other boxes concentrating on SPF products at this time of year; I’d be more interested in getting a sun protectant cream rather than something that will almost certainly cause me to burn, given my complexion!
I am keen to try out the Caudalie eye cream and the Naobay moisturiser, which to me are the only things that seem to be a reasonable size and really redeem the box,but I will likely give away everything else.
Overall, I didn’t love the June 2016 Look Fantastic box, but I would not be surprised if I am in the minority!
The total value of this month’s box comes to around £60.80, which for the box price of £15 per month (longer terms subs cost less) is quite impressive, even if I didn’t really like the edit!
